Description
Hegar Needle Holder, Tungsten Carbide
This Hegar needle holder comes in long sizes from 20 to 24 cm. Each one uses hard carbide inserts with a regular, normal-profile serration.
Regular serration
The regular serration holds standard needles firmly. Plus, carbide resists the wear that smooths out plain steel jaws. Also, gold handles mark the carbide inserts on the tray.
Long reach
Each size clears the skin edge easily. So you can close deep fascia and cavity layers with a steady hand. Then the ratchet holds the needle while you reposition.
Hegar pattern
The Hegar needle holder has ring handles, a ratchet and sturdy jaws. That classic layout feels familiar to most surgeons. Plus, it takes a wide range of needle sizes.
Choosing a length
The 20 cm size suits abdominal closure and most deep general work. Meanwhile, the 23 and 24 cm sizes help in the pelvis and chest. Many teams keep one long Hegar needle holder beside a shorter Mayo-Hegar.
Cleaning Hegar needle holder
Rinse the carbide jaws before residue hardens in the serration or the box joint. Next, brush the ratchet and box joint. Finally, lubricate the joint and dry the holder before it goes into the sterilizer.
