Description
Haight Rib Spreader
The Haight rib spreader gives a compact option for holding the ribs apart. Its blades measure 30 mm by 30 mm, and it spreads to 90 mm.
Compact spread
A 90 mm maximum opening keeps this spreader small. So it suits short incisions where a large frame would get in the way. Also, it fits easily on a small tray or as an extra on a larger set.
Blade size
Here, B and H both equal 30 mm, giving square blades. Therefore, the blades hold a good section of rib. Meanwhile, the modest depth keeps them from sitting too far into the chest.
When to choose it
Choose it when you need controlled, limited access. For example, small thoracic incisions may not need a full-size spreader. However, larger openings call for a bigger model such as the Tuffier.
Comparing compact spreaders
The Haight rib spreader has wider, deeper blades than the Hertzler. By contrast, the Hertzler opens slightly wider at 105 mm. Plus, both work well as backup spreaders on a larger tray.
Cleaning Haight rib spreader
Rinse the blades after each case and brush any tissue from the edges. Next, confirm that the frame opens smoothly through its range. Then dry it fully before it goes back on the shelf.
