Description
Guyon Catheter Guide
A long fine stylet that stiffens a soft catheter and steers it. The catheter is loaded onto the guide, the two are passed together, and the guide is withdrawn once the tip is where it needs to be, leaving the catheter in place.
Curved or straight
The curved guide imposes its own bend on the catheter and is the choice where the prostatic urethra needs to be negotiated. The straight guide simply stiffens, and suits a catheter that only needs support rather than direction. Both are offered in 35 cm and 39 cm.
Handle
The guide finishes in a flattened loop rather than a ring. The loop gives a grip that cannot rotate in the fingers, which is what you want when the plane of the curve has to be maintained through the pass.
Care
A guide is a thin rod and will take a set if it is stored under anything. Check it against a straight edge before use and retire anything bent; a guide that has been straightened by hand no longer has a predictable curve. Clean along its length, dry, and store hanging or flat in its own channel.
