Description
Friedman Tissue Nippers, 5 ½”
Some trimming sites sit around a curve, where straight jaws meet the tissue at an awkward angle. Friedman tissue nippers solve that with an angled head on a 14 cm (5 ½ inch) body. Oral surgeons and periodontists use them to snip tissue tags and tidy irregular gingival edges. Two angles are available, 30° and 45°.
30° or 45°: Matching the Angle to the Arch
Both options share the same 14 cm length. They differ only in the angle of the working end. The 30° version stays closer to a straight line of sight, so it often feels natural on anterior and premolar sites. The 45° Angle version turns further, which can help on lingual or distal surfaces. However, hand position varies by operator, so compare both photos before choosing.
A Typical Trimming Sequence
First, retract and dry the area so the margin is easy to see. Next, slide the angled jaws over the tag and close them firmly. Then release and check the edge. Because each bite is small, the surgeon removes only the tissue that needs to go. Also, irrigate afterward to flush away loose pieces.
Where Friedman Nippers Earn Tray Space
These nippers suit post-extraction cleanup, gingival recontouring and papilla trimming. In addition, their angle lets them work where scissors would block your view. So many clinicians keep one angled pair in each surgical cassette.
Before the First Use
Your nippers arrive non-sterile. Scrub the joint, dry it, then autoclave the pair ahead of any procedure. A member of our United States team opens and closes each pair to test the action before packing. For peace of mind, both angles are covered for three years against manufacturing defects, wear from use excepted.
Stainless steel for this model follows ASTM F899. For finer work, look at our Micro-Friedman nippers. Then browse our maxillofacial surgery instruments or the FAQs on angled patterns.
