Description

Frazier suction tip with stylet, 30° angle

This is the Frazier pattern set up for work that blocks. The shaft bends once through a firm 30° angle. Furthermore it runs 18 cm, or 7 inches, and a matching stylet comes with it. Intrace USA supplies this Frazier suction tip with stylet in surgical stainless steel, hubbed for standard tubing.

The stylet, and why it earns its place

A stylet is simply a wire sized to the lumen, with a small disc at one end to grip. Furthermore it does one job well. Above all, it pushes out whatever has lodged inside. Fine suction tips block on clot, bone dust and tooth fragments. Moreover they block at the worst moment, mid-procedure, with the field filling. Without a stylet, the answer is to swap instruments and clean the first one later. With one, the tip runs clear again in seconds.

It matters at the sink too. A narrow lumen holds protein that a rinse will not shift. Therefore passing the stylet before the tip goes into the washer is what separates a clean bore from a slowly staining one.

Thirty degrees, not a gentle curve

The other Frazier tubes we carry sweep round in a long curve. Instead this one bends once, sharply. However the distinction is practical rather than cosmetic. A defined angle holds the tip at a predictable attitude to the tissue. Consequently the operator can seat it against a wall or under a flap and still know where the opening points. A curve, by contrast, presents a different angle depending on how deep it sits. For work under direct vision at a fixed depth, the fixed bend wins.

Where it sits among the other Fraziers

Our shorter Frazier tubes run to 15 cm in four bores. Meanwhile the long one reaches 19 cm, with a fibre optic option. Consequently this tip falls between the two at 18 cm. Choose it when the job wants a set angle and a stylet to hand. Otherwise the plain tubes give you a choice of bore, or a light.

Keeping the stylet with the tip

Finally, a word on the stylet itself, because stylets go missing. They are thin, they are light, and on a cluttered tray they look like scrap. Consequently the sensible habit is simple. Park the stylet back in the tip as soon as it has done its work. Then keep the pair together through the whole cycle. Pass it through, flush with water, and process and autoclave both as one item. Afterwards, check the bore against the light before the tip returns to the tray.

Intrace USA backs this instrument for three years against manufacturing defects.
