Description

Frahm Amalgam Carvers, Fig. 1

The Frahm amalgam carver is a restorative hand instrument for carving anatomy and refining margins while amalgam is still workable. Dentists use it right after condensation, before the material sets. Our supplier catalogue lists Frahm Fig. 1 on two amalgam carver pages, which is why this listing has two styles.

Style 1 and Style 2 Explained

Style 1 comes from the first amalgam carver page of the catalogue. Style 2 appears on the following page as Fig. 1 Frahm once more, now fitted to a handle whose design the supplier never explains. Thus the working end is the same figure, and the choice comes down to the handle. Therefore look at both photos and choose the one you find easier to control.

Carving Amalgam Before It Sets

Timing matters with amalgam. First, condense the material and remove the excess. Then carve with light strokes that rest partly on tooth structure, so the blade follows the natural margin. In addition, keep the carver clean between strokes, because set fragments can drag across the surface.

Who Orders a Frahm

Many general dentists learned on the Frahm and prefer its feel. Also, dental schools often list specific carvers in kit requirements. When a student or associate asks for a Frahm Fig. 1, this listing lets you match that request exactly.

Steel and Support

The carver is stainless steel compliant with ASTM F899. Every Frahm is checked by our US team for blade finish and straightness before it is packed. Should the metal or polish fail, the carver comes with three years against manufacturing defects, while normal wear from use is not covered. It leaves us unsterilized; therefore clean and autoclave it before restorative treatment.

Carvers, burnishers and pluggers all live in our Diagnostic, Periodontal & Restorative Instruments. For a rounded alternative carving tip, add our Cleoid-Discoid Carvers, and check our FAQs for ordering help.
