Description
Ferris-Smith-Kerrison Punch Forceps Shaft
The Ferris-Smith-Kerrison punch is a long, 180 mm shaft punch for spinal decompression. It removes bone edges in small, square bites.
Long shaft for depth
A 180 mm shaft reaches deep lumbar levels. Therefore the surgeon can work through a deep wound. The handle stays outside the field.
Four options
Choose a 3 x 3 mm or 5 x 5 mm bite. Besides, each comes upward or downward. As a result, you can match the bite to the direction of the bone edge.
Who uses the Ferris-Smith-Kerrison punch
Lumbar spine surgeons use it for laminectomy and foraminotomy. Also, neurosurgeons use it in decompressions. It suits revision spine work.
Upward or downward
Upward bites remove bone above the footplate. Meanwhile, downward bites suit bone below. Moreover, many sets carry both directions.
Square bites
A square bite leaves a neat, straight edge. Consequently, the opening grows in a predictable way. That helps when planning how much bone to remove.
