Farrell Cotton Applicator (Lathbury-Uebe)
The Farrell cotton applicator, also known as the Lathbury-Uebe pattern, is a fine ENT applicator with a roughened tip. The texture grips cotton firmly, so the wisp stays put while you clean or medicate the ear canal or the nose.
Three lengths
The 12 cm size gives the most control in the ear canal. Meanwhile, the 14 cm and 16 cm sizes add reach for the nasal cavity. Because the tip is the same on all three, you can switch lengths without changing technique.
Using a Farrell cotton applicator
Twist a thin layer of cotton onto the tip, so it covers the end fully and no metal shows at all. Then work gently under direct vision. After use, strip the cotton off with gauze rather than with your fingers.
Care
Clean the roughened tip with a small brush, since cotton fibres cling to it. Then dry the applicator and sterilize it to your protocol, keeping the three lengths apart so they are easy to pick.
