Carroll Finger Goniometer

The Carroll finger goniometer is a small goniometer for the joints of the fingers. It rests on the back of the finger, so the Carroll finger goniometer measures flexion and extension without the bulk of a large dial.

Measure the knuckle and the two finger joints one at a time, and then record the active and passive range. For example, hand therapists track recovery after tendon repair or fracture this way. Because the tool sits on the back of the finger, it does not block the movement you are measuring.

Why a dedicated finger goniometer

Large goniometers overhang small joints, so the reading drifts. By contrast, a short arm and a small arc keep the Carroll aligned with each finger segment. As a result, repeat measurements agree more closely.

Care

Wipe the goniometer after each patient. Then clean the pivot and store it where nothing can scratch the arc. A clear, sharp scale makes small changes easy to see from one visit to the next.
