Description

Fahnenstock Wax Knives

A Fahnenstock wax knife is a lab and chairside tool for slicing, trimming and contouring dental wax. Technicians reach for it when building bite rims, carving wax patterns and cleaning up set-ups. Our supplier catalogue shows it on the wax knives page in two lengths. Then each length has a second handle style, which gives four options in all.

13 cm or 17 cm

The two lengths change how the knife feels in the hand. The 13 cm knife sits closer to the fingers, so it suits small patterns and fine trimming. In contrast, the 17 cm knife adds reach and keeps the hand farther from a heated blade, which helps on larger rims and model work. If you split time between both tasks, many labs keep one of each.

What Style 2 Adds

Both 13 cm and 17 cm come again as Style 2. That label marks a lower catalogue row: the identical Fahnenstock blade on an alternative handle, with no wording to explain the change. So the photos are the honest guide. Look at handle shape and thickness, then choose whatever feels balanced in your grip.

Heating and Cleaning the Blade

Warm the blade gently before cutting hard wax, because cold steel can crack a pattern. However, avoid glowing heat, since it discolours the knife. Afterwards, wipe the wax away while it is still soft. Then let the blade cool on a rest before storing it.

Our Checks and Promise

Fahnenstock knives use stainless steel to ASTM F899. Before any knife leaves Atlanta, one of our staff inspects the blade edge and handle joint. Each length and style carries three years against manufacturing defects in its metal or finishing; heat tint from routine flame use does not count. The knife is shipped unsterilized, so sterilize it before any intraoral use.
