Koehler Luxation Forceps
The Koehler luxation forceps helps you loosen a molar before you remove it. It works on right and left molars. It comes as one item, so there is no side or size to choose.
What luxation does
Luxation means moving the tooth in its socket to stretch the ligament. As the ligament gives, the bone around the root expands a little. As a result, the final delivery takes less force. In short, a good luxation step makes the rest of the case calmer.
Two stages, two instruments
Think of the case in two steps. First, use the Koehler to loosen the molar. Then switch to your usual extracting forceps to lift it out. This split keeps each tool on the job it does best. It also lets you judge how loose the tooth is before you commit.
One forceps for both sides
Many molar forceps come in handed pairs because of root anatomy. The Koehler, by contrast, serves both right and left molars. So you can keep one in each tray without a second side to track.
Working steps
- Bring the Koehler beaks onto cementum, beyond the enamel edge.
- Apply steady pressure toward the apex.
- Move the tooth buccal and lingual in small, slow arcs.
- Pause at the end of each arc so the ligament can yield.
Once the tooth moves freely, stop and change to your extracting figure.
Palm position for control
Rest the handles across the palm and keep the fingers wrapped low. Also, keep your wrist straight, since bent wrists lose control. Your other hand should guard the jaw and feel the movement.
Warranty, standards and links
Our specification guides its making, and the Koehler clears inspection in the United States. Material for the joint and beaks follows ASTM F899. Above all, you get three years against manufacturing defects if the forceps lets you down. Look through all our extraction forceps to complete the tray. For the delivery step on the maxilla, the upper molar forceps pair well with it. Common queries live on the Intrace FAQ. The Koehler ships non-sterile, and you can use it many times with cleaning and sterilization in between.
