Description
Double-Ended Excavators
Double-ended excavators put two spoons on one handle, so the restorative dentist can work mesial and distal walls without swapping instruments. This listing is broad, with twenty-nine options in total. That breadth lets an office standardise on one supplier for every spoon it uses.
The L Figures and 31LS
Fig. 31L, 32L and 33L come from one excavator page of the supplier catalogue, printed in sequence. Because the numbers climb in order, many dentists treat them as a graded series, yet the catalogue states no spoon sizes, so compare the photos. Fig. 31LS is a set component listed by name only, which sits next to 31L in the option list.
Catalogue Pairs 38/39, 63/64 and 65/66
These three paired figures appear on the same catalogue page as the L series. The slash marks the two ends of one instrument. Also, each pair, like each L figure, has a Style 2 option. In the supplier book, Style 2 sits one row lower: an identical spoon pairing fitted to another handle, whose distinction goes unexplained. Therefore pick by the handle shown in the photo that best fits your grip.
Numbered Pairs From 3/4 to 177/180
The remaining options carry their own labels without catalogue captions:
- Fig. 3/4, 7/8, 11/12, 12/13, 13/14, 14/15, 15/16, 17/18, 19/20, 21/22 and 23/24.
- Fig. 171/172, 173/174, 175/176, 177/178 and 177/180.
We describe these by label only. So, when you replace an existing instrument, read the number etched on your old handle and order that exact label.
Steel and Sterility
All twenty-nine options use stainless steel meeting ASTM F899. In our US facility, a person examines each spoon rim and handle before the order is sealed. Spoons that show a fault in alloy or polish fall under three years against manufacturing defects, counted from your invoice. Since every excavator travels unsterilized, scrub and autoclave it before restorative work begins.
