The endoscopic scalp elevator raises the scalp from the skull through small ports. Surgeons usually pick it first once the ports are open.

Blades and lengths

Blades come 7, 12.5 or 15 mm wide. Most run on a 23 cm shaft, while a 13 cm version carries the 15 mm blade. So the short tool suits work near the port, and the long one reaches the brow.

Start with 7 mm to open the plane safely. Then switch to 12.5 or 15 mm to widen it quickly. A wide blade also spreads force, which lowers the risk of tears.

Keep the blade flat on bone and push in short strokes. Watch the image rather than the hand. Moreover, avoid levering on the port edge, since it bruises the scalp.
