Description
Elastomeric Separator Placing Pliers
Bands need a little space before they go on. These separator placing pliers stretch an elastic separator so you can ease it between two teeth. A few days later, the teeth move apart just enough. Three lengths let you pick the tool that fits your hand.
The Visit Before Banding
Separation comes first in many band cases. So the patient visits a few days ahead of time. You stretch a ring of elastic, then work it through the contact point. Once it sits below the contact, you let it relax. Then it does its job quietly until the next visit.
Three Lengths to Choose From
The options differ in length only, according to the catalogue. The 165mm plier is the longest, then the 160mm, then the 155mm. A longer handle can give more leverage. A shorter one, however, can feel easier to steer. We sell each length singly, so you can try one first.
Tips for a Smooth Placement
- Load the separator on the tips, then open the plier to stretch it.
- Use a gentle back and forth motion through the contact.
- Stop once the separator sits below the contact point.
- Tell the patient that mild pressure is normal for a day or two.
Caring for the Stretching Tips
The tips spread apart under load, so they must stay aligned. After each use, rinse, dry and inspect them. Also, oil the joint if the action feels stiff. The pliers ship non-sterile. After cleaning and sterilization, they can serve again.
Our Backing and Related Tools
Every length uses stainless steel to ASTM F899. We commission these separator placing pliers to our specification, and we look over each one in the United States. Each length carries a warranty window of three years against manufacturing defects. Once the space is open, our band pushers help seat the band.
