Detailing Step Pliers
Late in treatment, a small step in the archwire can settle one tooth into place. Our detailing step pliers put that bayonet offset into the wire at the chair, so you can fine-tune height without a trip to the lab. They suit the finishing stage, when half a millimetre matters.
Finishing Bends, One Tooth at a Time
A step bend lifts or drops one short segment while the rest of the wire stays level. As a result, a single bracket feels a small intrusion or extrusion force. First, mark the spot on the wire. Then seat the beaks, close firmly and check the offset against the slot.
Bayonet or Double-Sided?
Both options make bayonet bends, but they work in different ways. We sell each one singly, so buy the pattern you need or keep both on the tray.
- Bayonet, 1 mm: forms a 1 mm step. It takes round wire of .012″ through .020″ (0.30 through 0.50 mm), and its top size is .022″ by .028″ wire.
- Double-Sided: has an offset beak that forms right hand or left hand step-up or step-down bends at ½, ¾ or 1 mm.
- In short, pick the first for one fixed step and the second for three step heights in one tool.
Staying Inside the Wire Range
Heavy wire can spread the beaks over time. For this reason, keep the Bayonet, 1 mm within the sizes above. Also, never use either plier to cut or twist wire, since that strains the tips.
A Light Test Before Each Case
Hold the closed beaks up to a lamp. They should meet along their length with no gap. If you spot a gap or a nick, set the plier aside and contact us rather than force a bend.
Cover, Standards and Links
These pliers come made to our specification, then get inspected in the United States; for the stainless steel, our benchmark is ASTM F899. Should a fault turn up, you may claim within a full three years against manufacturing defects, and the repair is our cost, not yours. They arrive non-sterile. Run them through cleaning and sterilization first; after that they serve case after case. For a stop rather than a step, see our V-bend stop pliers.
