Description
De la Rosa Arch Forming and Contouring Pliers
De la Rosa pliers form and contour archwire into a smooth arch. You run the wire through the beaks in small steps. As you go, the curve builds up along the whole length.
Reshaping a stock archwire
Stock archwires do not always match the patient. So you often need to widen, narrow or reshape the curve. This plier lets you do that in a steady way, one section at a time.
Round and rectangular limits
Round wire up to .020” is fine here. Rectangular wire can go to .021” by .025”. As a result, it suits most working archwires.
Midline first, then each side
- First, mark the midline on the wire.
- Then shape one side, moving the plier a little each time.
- Next, match the other side to it.
- Finally, check the wire against the arch chart.
New wire or finishing tweak
It is most useful when you switch to a new archwire. However, it also helps during finishing, when the arch form needs a small change. Some clinicians keep it at the lab bench too.
Protect the contour
A scratch on the beaks can mark the wire. For that reason, keep the plier apart from cutters in the tray. After cleaning, dry it and add a touch of oil to the joint if it feels stiff.
Ordering and our cover
The plier follows our drawing, then a member of our team in the United States inspects it. We chose stainless steel made to ASTM F899. Delivery is non-sterile; after a full clean and sterilisation it is ready for reuse in the clinic. If your De la Rosa pliers show a factory flaw, we fix it within three years against manufacturing defects. For a three-in-one take, see the bird beak and cutter combo. Our orthodontics range and questions and answers have more.
