DeBakey-Carotis Atrauma Bulldog Clamp
The DeBakey carotid bulldog clamp gives temporary, atraumatic occlusion sized for carotid work. It comes in 9 cm and 10 cm.
DeBakey carotid bulldog clamp: sized for the neck
Carotid exposures need a bulldog with enough reach but a low profile. So this version comes in 9 and 10 cm. Also, its small size keeps the neck field uncluttered while the surgeon works on the artery.
DeBakey jaws
DeBakey jaws hold with a gentle, even grip. Because of that, they suit the delicate carotid wall. Then the surgeon can remove the clamp quickly once flow can resume.
Choosing 9 or 10 cm
The 9 cm clamp suits smaller vessels such as branches. Meanwhile, the 10 cm size gives a bit more reach. Plus, many carotid sets hold one of each so the team can match clamp to vessel.
On a carotid tray
Carotid trays often hold a DeBakey carotid bulldog clamp alongside a shunt clamp. That way, the surgeon can control each vessel as the case requires. Next, count them in and out with the other small items on the tray.
Care of DeBakey carotid bulldog clamp
Clean the jaws with a soft brush and warm water after each case. However, avoid dropping the clamp, since small instruments bend easily. Keep it in a labeled small-parts box after drying, grouped with the other carotid clamps.
