Description
Davidson (Scapula) Retractor
The Davidson scapula retractor lifts the shoulder blade away from the chest wall during thoracic approaches. At 16 cm, it stays compact and easy for an assistant to hold.
Two blade sizes
Blades measure 75 x 50 mm or 75 x 90 mm. The smaller blade suits smaller patients and tighter spaces. However, the larger blade lifts more of the scapula at once.
Why lift the scapula
A posterolateral approach often runs beneath the shoulder blade. So raising it opens a view of the upper ribs. Then the surgeon can count ribs and choose the entry space.
A short hand instrument
The 16 cm length keeps the assistant close to the patient. Also, it gives direct feel for how much force goes into the lift. As a result, adjustments stay small and controlled.
Stocking a thoracic tray
Add the Davidson scapula retractor to trays for lateral and posterolateral chest work. Next, choose the blade size that fits most of your patients. Plus, a second size covers larger or smaller builds.
Reprocessing Davidson scapula retractor
Scrub the underside of the blade, where soft tissue residue gathers. Then rinse and dry the whole instrument before inspection. Also, keep it away from sharp tools in storage so the blade stays smooth.
