Description
Czerny Gall Stone Forceps
The Czerny gall stone forceps grasp stones in the gallbladder and bile ducts. A gentle curve and a 24.5 cm length help the jaws reach stones at awkward angles.
Size of the Czerny gall stone forceps
They measure 24.5 cm overall. Therefore, they reach both the gallbladder neck and the common duct. Meanwhile, the hand stays outside the wound.
The curve
The curved shaft guides the jaws around bends. As a result, the surgeon can reach stones without levering. That protects the duct wall.
Typical procedures
Open cholecystectomy and duct exploration both use them. For example, they lift a stone from Hartmann’s pouch. They also remove stones from the common duct.
Technique
Advance the closed jaws to the stone. Next, open and close gently around it. Then withdraw slowly along the curve.
Pairing
Scoops and probes complement the forceps. In addition, a duct dilator helps when the duct is narrow. Together they make a complete biliary set.
