Description
Koerte Gall Stone Forceps
The Koerte gall stone forceps hold stones securely while the surgeon removes them from the bile duct. Open, ring-shaped jaws cradle the stone instead of crushing it.
Length of the Koerte gall stone forceps
They measure 24 cm. As a result, they reach deep into the common duct. Meanwhile, the handles stay comfortably outside the wound.
Open jaws
Fenestrated jaws grip the stone at its edges. Consequently, even soft stones come out in one piece. The open design also lets bile drain through.
Typical procedures
Their main role comes during open duct exploration. Beyond that, they clear stones from the gallbladder neck and the cystic duct.
Technique
Pass the jaws beside the stone and open them gently. Next, close around the widest part of the stone. Then withdraw slowly along the duct.
A familiar pattern
Many biliary surgeons trained with Koerte forceps. Therefore, the feel is familiar in theatre. Most biliary sets carry a pair.
