Crown Spreader
This crown spreader is a stainless steel instrument for opening a crown that has already been sectioned. The supplier catalogue sums it up as a special instrument for crown spreading after separating, with simple and safe operation. In other words, it is the second step of removal, used once the cut is made.
How Sectioning and Spreading Work Together
When a crown will not be reused, the clinician often cuts a slot through it with a bur. That slot alone rarely frees the crown, though. Next, the spreader enters the cut and opens it. As the two sides move apart, the cement seal breaks, and the crown can then be lifted away. So the spreader turns one cut into a clean release.
Why a Spreader Instead of a Tapping Remover
Tapping removers deliver short impulses along the path of insertion. Some patients and some restorations, however, are better served by a slow, steady opening force. The spreader provides exactly that. In addition, it keeps the force inside the crown itself rather than pulling against the margin. Many teams therefore keep both types on the restorative tray and choose case by case.
Caring for the Spreading Tips
The spreading ends see metal dust and cement after every use. Brush them while still wet, then rinse and dry. The instrument is sent out non-sterile, which means your heat cycle must come before the first sectioned crown. Before we pack an order, a colleague in the United States inspects each spreader for alignment and finish. If the spreading tips ever prove faulty from production, our spreader guarantee spans three years against manufacturing defects.
Spreader steel is specified under ASTM F899. More restorative items are gathered in our dental instruments range. For crowns you plan to reuse, the double-ended crown remover offers a non-cutting approach. Our FAQ page explains returns and account setup.
