Description
Critchett Eye Speculum
Our critchett eye speculum is a 7cm lid speculum with a compact frame. It parts the upper and lower lids and holds that gap. So you can work on the eye with a steady, open field and both hands free.
The Critchett pattern at a glance
This is a traditional eponym in the speculum family. It does one job well: it holds the lids apart. Because it is 7cm, it sits a little smaller than many adult frames. That gives you a lighter tool near the eye, which some surgeons prefer for short cases.
When a Critchett fits the case
Reach for it on small adult eyes, older children or narrow lids. It also suits short exams and minor surface work. However, a large adult eye with wide lids may need an 8cm frame for full exposure. So keep both sizes close at hand.
Using the Critchett with care
- Hold the blades closed as you place them.
- Tuck each blade under the lid margin, clear of the lashes.
- Let the frame open slowly while you watch the globe.
- Close it again before you lift it out.
Critchett reprocessing, step by step
Rinse the Critchett in cool water while the case is still fresh. Next, work a soft brush over each blade with a low-foam cleaner. Then dry the frame and look for nicks on the blade rims. Your Critchett arrives non-sterile, and a full steriliser run comes before its first patient. From then on, the frame goes back on the tray after every cycle.
