Cooley-Derra Vascular Clamp
The Cooley-Derra clamp holds vessel walls together during an anastomosis without crushing them. It comes in four closely spaced lengths between 16 and 18 cm.
Four close lengths
You can choose 16, 16.5, 17 or 18 cm. So the step between sizes stays small, which lets you fine-tune reach by half a centimeter. Most teams pick one or two that match their usual operating depth.
Anastomosis work
During a vessel join, the clamp keeps flow stopped right at the cut edges. As a result, the surgeon can place each suture in a dry, still field. Its atraumatic jaws also leave the wall in good shape for healing.
A multi-purpose pattern
Besides anastomosis, surgeons reach for it during general vascular occlusion. Therefore, one clamp can serve several steps within a single case. That flexibility helps keep instrument counts down on a busy tray.
Choosing a length
A 16 cm clamp stays compact close to the skin. Meanwhile, the 18 cm Cooley-Derra clamp gives extra reach in a deeper field. Then the 16.5 and 17 cm sizes fill any gap between those two.
Reprocessing Cooley-Derra clamp
Rinse the jaws right after use, since dried blood clings to atraumatic surfaces. Next, place the clamp open in the washer so water reaches every face. Once dry, test that the jaws still meet along their whole length.
