Description
Derra Atrauma Cardiovascular Anastomosis Clamp
The Derra anastomosis clamp keeps vessels steady and bloodless while a surgeon sutures a join. It comes in three lengths: 16, 17 and 18 cm.
Three sizes
The three lengths sit exactly one centimeter apart. So you can pick a reach that matches your field closely. Many sets carry the 17 cm middle size as their default.
During the join
This clamp stops blood flow right at the anastomosis site. As a result, the field stays clear for every suture the surgeon places. Meanwhile, its atraumatic grip spares the vessel wall from crush injury.
A classic pattern
Surgeons have relied on the Derra pattern in cardiovascular work for decades. Plus, it shares its roots with the combined Cooley-Derra design. That long history makes it familiar to many cardiac teams.
Where it fits best
Mid-depth vessels in the chest suit this length range well. However, very deep sites may call for a longer anastomosis clamp. In that case, keep the Derra anastomosis clamp for the nearer joins.
Care of Derra anastomosis clamp
Soak the clamp briefly in enzyme solution if blood has started to dry on it. Then clean it open and rinse away every trace of detergent. Dry it, confirm that the jaws close evenly, and store it flat.
