Description
Cook Eye Speculum
The Cook eye speculum comes in two sizes, 4 cm and 5 cm, with Children and Adult versions. Its small, light frame keeps the lids open. Many pediatric teams like it because it suits short lids and quick exams.
Children or Adult version?
The Children version suits smaller lids and short openings. The Adult version, by contrast, fits longer lids. Clinics that see both age groups often stock a pair, so switching takes seconds.
4 cm or 5 cm Cook?
The 4 cm frame is the most compact choice. The 5 cm frame gives a little more size for larger lids. When you order, check which size pairs with each version, so the frame matches the patient.
Using the Cook with young patients
With young patients:
- Explain each step in simple words
- Let a parent hold the child’s hand
- Work quickly once the speculum is in
Why pediatric teams pick a light frame
Children squeeze their lids hard when they feel pressure. A light frame lowers that pull. As a result, the exam often goes faster and calmer for everyone.
Cook speculum cleaning
Small frames dry fast, so clean them soon. Rinse, brush the bends and dry well. Also keep children’s and adult versions in clearly marked slots, so no one picks the wrong size in a rush.
Ordering the Cook speculum
Both Cook sizes ship unsterile; wash and sterilize the Cook frame, and it stays reusable through many pediatric lists. Cook steel meets ASTM F899. Each Cook, child or adult, has cover for three years against manufacturing defects. Cook buyers can see the ophthalmology category, or compare the Mellinger speculum, also in child and adult sizes.
