Description
Mellinger Eye Speculum
The Mellinger eye speculum comes in 5 cm and 7 cm sizes, with Children and Adult versions. It holds the lids apart for clear access during eye surgery or office procedures. The range lets one pattern serve patients of many ages.
One Mellinger pattern, many patients
Using one design across ages has real benefits. Staff learn one action, and setup stays the same. Only the size then changes with the patient. As a result, training new staff takes less time.
Picking size and version
Choose the Children version for small lids and the Adult version for full-size lids. Then pick 5 cm or 7 cm. As a rule, the 5 cm suits smaller lid openings, while the 7 cm gives more frame for larger ones.
Mellinger set suggestions
A practical stock plan:
- One Children version for pediatric lists
- Two Adult versions for busy adult days
- A spare so one is always in processing
Telling the versions apart
Staff can mix up similar frames in a busy unit. So mark children’s and adult versions in separate slots, and note the size on the tray map. Also check the size before each case.
Mellinger care after use
Rinse the frame soon after the case, then brush the bends and joints. Dry it fully before storage. In addition, look for burrs on the arms, because a rough spot can rub the lid.
