Description
Cohen Tissue Nippers
After an extraction or a flap procedure, loose tags of gingiva often remain at the margins. Cohen tissue nippers are small biting instruments that cut those tags away cleanly. They are offered in two lengths, 10 cm and 14 cm, both in stainless steel.
Choosing 10 cm or 14 cm
The options differ only in overall length. The 10cm version suits anterior sites and smaller hands, since it sits close to the work. The 14cm version gives more reach toward molars and the retromolar area. So pick by where you trim most often. Our catalogue gives no further detail on jaw shape, so compare the product photos for each size.
Trimming Tags After Extraction
Torn gingiva at a socket edge can catch food and slow comfort. First, retract the cheek or tongue for a clear view. Then grasp the tag in the jaws of the Cohen tissue nippers and close firmly. Because the cut happens at the jaws, the surrounding margin stays intact. Finally, irrigate the site and check for loose fragments.
Refining Margins in Periodontal Surgery
During gingivectomy or flap trimming, small irregular bits often need removal. Also, interdental tissue left after scaling may need recontouring. In those cases, Cohen nippers take off thin slivers without dragging tissue. Therefore, they complement scissors rather than replace them.
Inspected, Non-Sterile and Warranted
Both lengths pass a hand inspection at our United States base before packing. They are not sterile on arrival; clean and autoclave each nipper before it reaches a patient. If a joint loosens from a production flaw, the 10 and 14 cm Cohen nippers have three years against manufacturing defects behind them.
The steel is held to ASTM F899. To lift the tag before you cut, pair the nippers with our Goldman Fox forceps. In addition, browse all maxillofacial surgery instruments, or see the FAQs for sizing help.
