Description
Castroviejo Eye Knife
The Castroviejo eye knife honors Ramon Castroviejo, a pioneer of corneal transplant surgery. We offer it in 9 cm and 13 cm sizes. So you can match the length to your hand and your case.
Two Sizes
- 9 cm: short and light for close microscope work.
- 13 cm: longer for more reach and a relaxed grip.
- Both share the same blade pattern.
- Both ship non-sterile.
How to Pick a Size
Think about where your hand rests. If you brace close to the eye, the 9 cm size feels natural. If you rest further back, the 13 cm size may suit you better. Many surgeons keep both.
A Corneal Pioneer
Castroviejo worked in New York and helped make corneal grafts routine. He also designed many fine eye tools. As a result, his name is one of the most common in eye trays. This knife continues that line.
Left and Right Hands
The knife itself has no side, so either hand can use it. Still, left-handed surgeons may set the tray in mirror order. Then the knife sits on their working side. Tell the scrub team so the setup matches.
Keeping Both Sizes Apart
Two sizes of the same pattern are easy to mix up. Therefore, store each in its own labeled slot. Fit a guard on each blade. Also note the size on the count sheet.
Castroviejo Tools as a Family
Many eye trays already hold Castroviejo forceps, scissors and needle holders. So a Castroviejo knife fits right in. Also, staff tend to know the name at once. That makes setup a little faster.
Castroviejo Cover and Links
Both sizes arrive unsterilized. Process each before first use; afterward, regular cleaning and steam bring them back for every list. Both Castroviejo sizes carry three years against manufacturing defects on our books. Castroviejo steel is a stainless grade that meets ASTM F899.
