Description
Carbide Serrated Beak Extracting Forceps (T.C.)
These carbide extracting forceps carry serrated tungsten carbide inserts on the beaks. The fine teeth bite into root surface, so the grip resists slipping. The range follows common American numbers, and you can buy any figure singly.
What the T.C. inserts add
T.C. stands for tungsten carbide. The inserts sit on the inner face of each beak. Because carbide extracting forceps have serrated faces, they hold a smooth or tapered root more firmly. That helps when a crown is weak or missing.
Thirteen figures by region
- Universal: Fig. 150 upper and Fig. 151 lower, for incisors, cuspids, bicuspids and roots.
- Upper: Fig. 1 STD for incisors and cuspids; Fig. 53L and 53R for 1st and 2nd molars; Fig. 65 for incisors, roots and fragments.
- Lower: Fig. 17 for 1st and 2nd molars; plus a lower root tips and molars pattern.
- Roots and fragments: Fig. 69 upper and lower; root tip, upper; root tip, lower.
- Pedo: Fig. 150S for upper and Fig. 151S for lower primary teeth.
Building a carbide kit
First, add the 150 and 151 pair, since they cover much of both arches. Then add 53L and 53R for upper molars. These come as a right and left pair, because the buccal beak point fits the buccal trifurcation. Next, choose Fig. 17 for lower molars. Finally, add root tip and fragment figures for broken roots.
Grip on the root
Hold the root low, past the enamel line, and work it with measured cheek-side and tongue-side moves. In practice, the serrations let you use less squeeze for the same hold.
Caring for serrations
Debris can lodge between the teeth of the inserts. So scrub them with a nylon brush before any sterilizing cycle. Also, inspect the inserts under good light for chips.
How we supply them
Each T.C. figure follows our own drawing; the main body uses stainless steel to ASTM F899. It is delivered non-sterile and, after cleaning and sterilization, it serves again. Coverage on every figure is three years against manufacturing defects, inserts included. Explore more extracting forceps by region, or see the Lindo-Levian T.C. root forceps.
