Description
Buck Ligature Scissors
The Buck ligature scissors cut ligatures and sutures in theatre. Two lengths cover surface ties and ties deep in the wound.
Two lengths
We offer 14 cm and 18 cm. In addition, the 14 cm pair suits skin and superficial ties. Meanwhile, the 18 cm pair reaches ties deep in the abdomen.
Why the Buck ligature scissors
Cutting ties at depth needs a longer, steady pair. Therefore, the 18 cm version keeps the hand above the wound.
Typical uses
Assistants cut ligature ends after each tie. They also trim suture tails during closure.
Technique
Slide the blades down the thread to the knot, then lift slightly and cut. Besides, this leaves a short, safe tail.
On the tray
Many general trays carry a short and a long ligature scissors. Moreover, that way, the assistant always has the right reach.
Keeping them sharp
Sharp scissors cut thread cleanly without fraying. Therefore, check the cut regularly.
Buck ligature scissors at depth
Ties placed deep in the pelvis or abdomen must be cut without pulling them loose. With the longer Buck pair, the assistant slides the blades down the thread, steadies them on the knot and snips cleanly.

Ordering with confidence
Any scissors has a close once-over in Atlanta before it leaves. Both Buck lengths ship with three years against manufacturing defects. For a related option, add the ligature scissor range. Most hospitals order a backup scissors in case one is out for service. More instruments live in the general surgery range. For a summary of medical stainless steel, open ASTM F899.
