Description
Buck Gingivectomy Knives
Gingival surgery leaves little room between teeth, and a scalpel cannot always follow the papilla. The buck gingivectomy knife fills that gap with a small, paired blade on each end of a hand handle. Periodontists use it for interdental incisions and to refine tissue after the main cut. Our supplier’s periodontal pages show two Buck figures, and we carry both.
Fig. 3/4 Compared With Fig. 5/6
Fig. 3/4 and Fig. 5/6 are the two Buck figures listed in the catalogue. Each number pair marks a double-ended instrument with mirror-image blades, so one tool works both sides of an embrasure. The catalogue does not state blade angles for either figure. Therefore, Buck buyers usually decide from the photos, or reorder whichever figure is stamped on their old knife.
What Style 2 Means Here
Both figures also appear in a second row on the next catalogue page. We list those as Fig. 3/4, Style 2 and Fig. 5/6, Style 2. Same Buck blades, but the supplier pictures them with another handle and gives that handle no name. So if your hand prefers one handle shape, look at both sets of photos before ordering.
Keeping the Edge Ready
- Sharpen lightly before each surgery, not after.
- Store blades so they never touch other steel.
- Then inspect the tip under magnification.
Because a dull edge tears tissue instead of cutting it, a sharpening stone belongs on the same tray.
Inspection, Sterility and the Three-Year Promise
Each Buck knife is examined in the United States for blade symmetry and handle finish before dispatch. It ships non-sterile; so clean, dry and autoclave it before the first periodontal case. Also, we cover the knife against faults in its making, giving it three years against manufacturing defects on both blades.
The blade steel follows ASTM F899. You may also want the Goldman-Fox gingivectomy knives for broad incisions, the full periodontal and diagnostic instrument range, and our answers to common questions.
Buck knives are for periodontists and surgeons trained in gingival procedures. Please read our blade cleaning guidance and how we ship within the US.
