Description
Bone collector with suction tube
Drilling an osteotomy produces autogenous bone. Most of it disappears down the suction line. A bone collector catches it instead. This one is a stainless steel canister that sits between the tip and the hose, with its own tapered suction tube on top, so it drops into an existing setup rather than replacing it.
Catching the graft you are already making
Autogenous bone is the graft material every implant surgeon would choose first. It is the patient’s own, it carries living cells, and it costs nothing to obtain when the drill is already cutting. However it is easy to lose. A few seconds of suction takes the lot.
The collector solves that with a filter inside the canister. Fluid and blood pass straight through to the hose. Meanwhile the bone chips stay behind on the mesh, ready to lift out and pack. Because the harvest happens as a by-product of the osteotomy, there is no second surgical site and no extra appointment.
How it sits in the line
The body unscrews into two halves around the filter. Consequently loading and emptying take seconds. The tapered tube on top accepts the aspirating tip, and the base connects to standard suction tubing. Nothing about the chairside routine changes except that at the end of the drilling you have graft material in your hand.

Getting a usable harvest
Two habits make the difference between a useful volume of bone and a thin scatter on the mesh. First, run copious irrigation and let the collector do the separating, rather than drilling dry to keep the chips together. Second, put the collector in line before the first cut, not after you notice the osteotomy is going well.
Empty it while the bone is still wet, too. Chips that have started to dry on the mesh are harder to release and less useful once they are.
Cleaning between cases
Strip the canister completely after every use. A filter that has been autoclaved with bone still on it is very difficult to recover, so clear the mesh first and flush the housing and the tube through. Then process all the parts and autoclave them separately, and reassemble only when everything is dry.
This collector is warranted by Intrace USA for three years against manufacturing defects.
