Bonaccolto Suture Forceps
The Bonaccolto suture forceps is a 10 cm tool for wound closure in eye surgery. It holds tissue edges while you pass the needle. As a result, each bite lands where you want it. Surgeons often keep one beside the needle holder.
What it brings to closure
Good closure needs a steady wound edge. So the forceps lifts and steadies the edge, then lets go without tearing. That helps you place even, well spaced sutures. Also, a light grip on the edge avoids crush marks on the cornea or sclera.
Holding the Bonaccolto
Hold it like a pen, with the tips just below eye level in the scope. In addition, keep the pressure light, because fine tissue needs only a gentle grip. Then rotate the wrist rather than the fingers.
- 10 cm working length
- Holds wound edges during suturing
- Light grip for fine tissue
- Ships non-sterile, reusable
Where it fits on the tray
Place it with your needle holder and tying forceps. However, it does not replace a tying forceps for fine knots. Instead, it acts as the hand that holds tissue while the needle passes.
Reprocessing the tips
Wipe the tips during the case to keep them clear. After surgery, rinse and brush them. Finally, inspect the tips under magnification and send any damaged forceps for review. Then store the forceps in a rack, so the tips never touch.
