Nugent Suture Forceps
Choose the Nugent suture forceps with a serrated or a smooth edge. Both versions measure 10 cm. They help you handle tissue and suture material during eye surgery closure. So the edge type is the main choice to make.
Serrated edge
Serrations add grip. Therefore, the serrated version holds tissue and suture ends with less slip. It suits most general steps, especially when tissue is wet. In addition, the serrated face grips a needle end well when you pull it through.
Smooth edge
A smooth edge gives a gentle hold. As a result, it is kinder to fine suture material and to delicate layers. Many surgeons prefer it for handling thin nylon. Still, it may slip a little more on wet tissue.
- Size: 10 cm
- Serrated edge for a firm grip
- Smooth edge for gentle handling
- Reusable once sterilized
Which edge for your tray
If you can only stock one, think about your usual case. For example, a busy anterior segment list may favor smooth edges. However, mixed general work often calls for serrated jaws. Then again, some theaters simply stock both and let each surgeon choose.
Care for each edge type
Serrations trap debris, so brush them firmly along their length. In contrast, smooth jaws need less scrubbing but show scratches more. In both cases, dry and inspect them after each wash. Finally, store each version with a tip guard.
