Description
Boley Measuring Range 0
A boley gauge is a sliding caliper that dental technicians and clinicians use to take linear readings. Ours measures across a range of 0 to 100 mm, and the whole tool is 14 cm long. It sits in the laboratory instruments section of the supplier catalogue, beside the Iwanson and decimal calipers. Since there is only one model, no options need choosing.
What You Can Measure
The two jaws close on an object, and then you read the distance on the scale. So the gauge suits tooth widths, arch segments, model bases and prosthetic components. In orthodontic study model work, for example, it helps with space analysis. It also checks the length of a denture flange or a wax rim.
Reading the 0 to 100 mm Scale
The 100 mm span covers most single teeth and quadrants with room to spare. For best results, hold the gauge square to the surface and read the scale at eye level. Then close the jaws gently, because heavy pressure can mark wax or soft models.
Keeping the Slide Smooth
Plaster and wax dust collect in the slide channel over time. Therefore, wipe the jaws after each use and clean the track before sterilizing for chairside work. The gauge arrives non-sterile, so treat it as you would any metal item that touches a patient.
The Boley is stainless steel, inspected by our Atlanta team in the United States, and warranted for three years against manufacturing defects on the scale and slide. Our steel follows the ASTM F899 standard. Browse more in our Dental Instruments range, or pair the boley gauge with the Iwanson calipers for wall thickness. Our FAQs cover orders.
