Black Gingival Margin Trimmers

The cervical floor of a Class II box is the hardest wall to reach with a bur, and that is where a gingival margin trimmer earns its place. Its curved blade planes and bevels the gingival margin, removing loose enamel rods so the restoration can seal. This page offers five Black patterns from our supplier catalogue. Each one also comes in a Style 2 handle, giving ten options in all.

Mesial and Distal Pairs

Trimmers come in mesial and distal versions because the blade curve must face the wall you are working on. Here, 27, 29 and 79-80 are marked Mesial, while 28 and 77-78 are marked Distal. In practice, clinicians pair a mesial with a distal trimmer so both proximal boxes of a tooth can be finished. For example, 77-78 Distal and 79-80 Mesial make a natural pair.

Single Numbers Versus Hyphenated Numbers

The single-number patterns, 27, 28 and 29, sit alongside the hyphenated 77-78 and 79-80. A hyphenated number usually indicates a double-ended instrument. Since the catalogue prints no blade sizes, compare the photos to judge width and curvature before choosing.

What Style 2 Adds

The catalogue shows all five trimmers on two consecutive pages. Therefore each Style 2 trimmer repeats its Black number from the later page, fitted to a handle pattern the catalogue never describes. Match the photo to your existing trays, or simply choose the handle you prefer.
