Bird Beak Pliers
The bird beak is one of the most used pliers in orthodontics. Our bird beak pliers pair a conical beak with a pyramidal beak, so you can form loops and bends in one tool. We offer three options to match the wire you use.
Cone and Pyramid
The cone beak shapes curves and loops. Meanwhile, the pyramid beak gives a flat face for sharp bends. Together they handle a wide range of wire work, from stops to helices.
Choosing Among Three Options
Each option is sold singly, so pick by wire size and access.
- Angled: an angled bird beak that handles 0.30–0.50 mm round wire, and wire as large as 0.56 x 0.71 mm.
- Light Wire (to .016″): for light round, square and rectangular wire up to .016″ (0.41 mm).
- Standard (to .030″): for round, square and rectangular wire up to .030″ (0.76 mm).
Matching Wire to Beak
Thin beaks give fine control but cannot take heavy wire. So keep the Light Wire option for fine work. Then use the Standard for thicker wire, and the Angled when you want a different reach.
Good Loop Technique
Start the loop on the cone, near the tip for small loops. Next, slide toward the joint for larger ones. Finally, square off the legs on the pyramid beak.
Tip Alignment Checks
Close the plier and look at the tips. They should meet evenly. If they cross or gap, stop using it for fine bends and contact us.
Guarantee and Links
We have each option made to our own specification, with checks in the United States before dispatch. Our steel choice rests on ASTM F899, a stainless standard for surgical tools. A warranty of its own kind covers it: three years against manufacturing defects, and we answer claims fast. Out of the box it needs a wash and a sterile cycle; then it can serve again and again. For a plier with a built-in cutter, see our multi-purpose bird beak and cutter. More choices sit in our orthodontic instrument range, and the Intrace help page answers order questions.
