Bernard atraumatic forceps support gentle tooth removal. The aim is to keep the socket walls and soft tissue as intact as you can. We offer four figures, two for each arch, and sell every figure singly.

The idea behind atraumatic removal

Atraumatic work favors slow luxation over brute force. As a result, the thin buccal plate is more likely to survive. This counts for a lot if an implant or ridge graft will follow. However, the forceps support the method; they do not replace it.

Upper and lower figures

• 134 Upper: for the maxillary arch.
• 153 Upper: a second maxillary figure.
• 136 Lower: for the mandibular arch.
• 146 Lower: a second mandibular figure.

Choose by arch first. Then pick by tooth group and root form in the case at hand. Many clinics start their Bernard atraumatic forceps kit with one upper and one lower figure.

Fitting the forceps into a sectioning plan

Multi-rooted teeth often come out more cleanly when you section them. After you split the crown, treat each root as a single unit. Then seat the beaks apically on root surface. Small, steady movements lift each part without levering on the bone.

Pacing the luxation

Hold each movement for a few seconds. This lets the ligament stretch and the socket expand. Also, keep the beaks parallel to the long axis of the root. Rushing tends to crack thin roots.

Hand position

Keep your wrist straight and let the palm carry the force. Meanwhile, the free hand guards the lip and supports the jaw.

Order and warranty

We commission the Bernard figures to our own specification, and our people on US soil look them over before they leave. The stainless steel meets the ASTM F899 standard. Expect a non-sterile delivery; after cleaning and sterilization, reuse it across many cases. Should a production fault surface, our cover is three years against manufacturing defects.
