Description
Autoclavable Protection Tube for Intraligamental Syringes
This syringe protection tube is a plastic sleeve for intraligamental syringes. It surrounds the glass cartridge while you inject. Because PDL injections use high pressure, the tube adds a layer of safety around the glass.
Why a sleeve matters
Intraligamental syringes push solution into tight tissue. As a result, the cartridge sits under more pressure than in a normal block. A protection tube helps contain the glass if a cartridge ever cracks.
Where it fits
The tube suits our pistol and pen intraligamental syringes. In addition, it slides over a standard 1.8 ml cartridge. Check the fit on your own syringe before you start a case.
Practical points
- Plastic sleeve sized for a 1.8 ml cartridge
- Autoclavable, so you can reprocess it
- Light enough not to change the feel of the syringe
- Easy to keep one per syringe
Replacing worn tubes
Plastic ages with repeated cycles. Therefore, look for cracks, cloudiness or warping before each use. Replace the tube as soon as it shows any of these signs.
Storing spares
Keep a spare syringe protection tube with each intraligamental syringe. Then a worn sleeve can be swapped at once, so the syringe is never used without one. Store spares away from heat and sunlight.
Cleaning
Rinse the tube after each patient and wipe the inside. Then let it dry and autoclave it with the syringe. Avoid harsh solvents, since they can weaken plastic.
Each protection tube leaves us non-sterile; rinse it and autoclave it with its syringe before use. Because it is plastic, the ASTM F899 steel standard does not apply to it; the matching syringes use steel to ASTM F899. Every protection tube carries three years against manufacturing defects, sleeve wall included. For the syringe itself, see the Pistol-Ject intraligamental syringe.
