Description
Yasargil Raspatory
The Yasargil raspatory is a periosteal elevator for stripping periosteum and soft tissue from bone. Neurosurgeons strip the skull or spine with it before drilling, cutting or placing retractors.
What a raspatory does
Bone work needs a clean surface. So the surgeon pushes the raspatory along the bone to lift the periosteum away. That exposes the bone and also keeps the tissue layer intact for closure.
Two patterns at 18 cm
We offer the Yasargil raspatory at 18 cm in two patterns. The listing does not describe how the two working ends differ. Therefore, contact us and we will send photos or details of each before you order.
Where it fits
Most cranial and spinal trays hold at least one raspatory. For example, a surgeon may use it after the skin incision and before a retractor goes in. It also helps clear bone edges around a burr hole.
Choosing between patterns
If you already use one Yasargil pattern, ordering the same keeps your set consistent. However, some surgeons like both, since different ends suit different surfaces. We can help you decide.
Caring for your raspatory
Scrape off tissue before it dries, because periosteum sticks firmly to the blade. Then scrub the blade with a nylon brush. Rinse, check the edge and dry thoroughly before sterilizing.
