Description
Yasargil Galea Hook
The Yasargil galea hook holds back the scalp flap during cranial surgery. Surgeons hook it into the galea, the tough layer of the scalp, and then pull the flap away from the operating area.
What it does
After the scalp incision, the flap must stay folded back while the surgeon works on the skull. So galea hooks hold it in place without a hand on it. That frees the assistant for other tasks.
Two options
We sell two versions. The first has a 7 mm hook and an overall listing of 31 cm. The second has a 9 mm hook, listed at 41 cm. The larger hook suits a thicker or larger flap.
Where it fits
Most craniotomy setups use several galea hooks along the edge of the flap. For example, two or three hooks can spread the pull evenly. Then the flap stays stable for the rest of the case.
Choosing a hook size
If most of your flaps are small, the 7 mm hook works well. However, the 9 mm hook gives more hold on larger flaps. Contact us if you want to know how these figures relate to your current hooks.
Caring for your galea hooks
Clean the hooks after every case, since blood and hair collect at the bend. Brush them well, then rinse. Dry them thoroughly before sterilizing, and check the points for bending.
