Description
Scalp Contour Retractor
The scalp contour retractor holds scalp edges apart during cranial surgery. It follows the curve of the head, so it sits well on the skull.
Why a contoured retractor
A flat retractor can rock on the rounded skull. Instead, a contoured design follows the surface and stays in place. As a result, the scalp edges stay open with steady tension.
Teeth options
We offer the retractor at 14 cm with teeth given as 3 x 4. Both blunt and sharp teeth are available. The blunt set rests gently on tissue, whereas the sharp set grips more firmly.
In a craniotomy
After the scalp incision, the surgeon places the retractor to spread the edges. Then scalp clips control bleeding along the margins. Next, the team moves on to the bone work.
Blunt versus sharp
Sharp teeth hold thick scalp securely. However, blunt teeth reduce the risk of tearing thin tissue. Many teams keep both, so the surgeon chooses on the day.
Caring for your scalp contour retractor
Rinse between the teeth right after use, since hair and tissue collect there. Then scrub with a small brush and detergent. Dry the retractor completely and sterilize it open.
