Description
Frazier Dura Hook
The Frazier dura hook lifts the dura away from the brain before the surgeon opens it. Its sharp tip catches the membrane, so the surgeon can tent it and make a safe first incision.
Lifting the dura
Before cutting the dura, the surgeon wants space between it and the brain. Therefore, a sharp hook picks up the dura and raises it gently. Then a knife or scissors can start the opening above the gap.
Two lengths
We offer the hook in 13 cm and 18 cm lengths, both with a sharp tip. The 13 cm hook suits surface work. Meanwhile, the 18 cm hook helps when the field sits deeper.
In the opening sequence
After the bone flap comes away, the dura lies exposed. For example, the surgeon can lift it with the Frazier hook and nick it with a blade. Next, the scissors extend the cut while the hook keeps tension.
Choosing a length
Many surgeons keep one short and one long hook on the tray. So both lengths often make sense. If you order only one, choose the length that matches your typical craniotomy depth.
Caring for your Frazier dura hook
Handle the sharp tip with care during cleaning. Brush the hook gently, rinse it and dry it fully. Then sterilize it with a tip protector, so the point stays sharp for the next case.
