Description
Wassmund Retractor
The Wassmund retractor is a hand-held instrument for oral and maxillofacial surgery. It measures about 20.5 cm and carries a 33 x 20 mm blade.
For the mouth and jaw
Oral surgeons need to move the cheek, lips and flaps away from the site. So this tool holds soft tissue back while the surgeon works. That keeps the bone and teeth in view.
A 33 x 20 mm blade
The blade gives enough width to hold a flap without covering the site. Also, its moderate depth suits the vestibule and jaw. Then the assistant can keep steady tension.
20 cm reach
We list the length as 20 cm, and it measures about 20.5 cm. Therefore the assistant’s hand stays outside the mouth. That leaves room for suction and drills.
Typical procedures
Wisdom tooth removal, jaw fracture work and implant surgery all benefit from this tool. In addition, it helps during flap surgery in the maxilla and mandible. Keep a Wassmund retractor on every oral surgery tray.
Cleaning Wassmund retractor
Rinse saliva and blood away before they dry on the blade. Next, brush both faces and clean the neck with care. Finally, dry the instrument and store it with your oral surgery set.
