Lahey Retractor

The Lahey retractor is a hand-held thyroid retractor with a slim 28 x 6 mm blade. We list it at 18 cm, and it measures about 19 cm.

Built for thyroid work

Thyroid and neck surgery need gentle exposure of small structures. So the narrow blade lifts tissue without covering the field. That leaves room to see the gland and nearby nerves.

A slim 28 x 6 mm blade

The blade runs 28 mm deep and just 6 mm wide. Therefore it fits between tissue planes in a small incision. It also keeps pressure focused where you want it.

Hand-held control

The assistant can change tension with a light touch. Meanwhile, the surgeon keeps both hands for dissection. Then small adjustments happen without pausing the case.

Other uses

Beyond the thyroid, it suits parathyroid and other neck procedures. Also, surgeons use it in small incisions elsewhere that need a narrow blade. Many head and neck trays hold two of this Lahey retractor.

Reprocessing Lahey retractor

Clean the slim blade gently to avoid bending it. Next, rinse off detergent and check the tip for straightness. Finally, dry it well and store it in a protected slot.
