Description
Walter-Carmalt Splinter Forceps
Walter-Carmalt splinter forceps have sharp triangular points on wide, grooved arms. The design gives a precise bite with a solid hold.
Triangular points
Each point comes to a sharp, flat triangle. Because of that, the tips can slide under a splinter edge and grip it in one move.
Grooved arms
Long grooves run down the outside of the arms. So your thumb and finger stay in place, even with wet gloves.
Straight or curved
The straight version suits most splinters on flat skin. Meanwhile, the curved version helps around nails, knuckles and other awkward angles.
In practice
Clinicians who remove glass and metal slivers often prefer this pattern. Also, the sharp points help with ingrown hair and small cysts. The sharp triangle also lets you open a tiny entry point before you grip. However, it pays to work gently, because the points can nick healthy skin. For fine glass, the curved pair often gives the better angle. Keep the points capped between uses so they stay sharp.
Reprocessing Walter-Carmalt splinter forceps
Rinse the tips right after use. Next, scrub the grooves with a soft brush, because debris can collect there. Then rinse, dry and inspect the points before sterilization.
