The Vienna nasal speculum is a common pattern for examining the nose. Clinicians use a Vienna nasal speculum to open the nostril for inspection and simple procedures.

A familiar clinic pattern

Many ENT and primary care clinics keep a Vienna on the exam tray. Its blades spread the nostril gently. So the clinician gets a good view of the anterior nose.

Three age groups

We offer infant, children and adult sizes. The infant Vienna suits the smallest nostrils. Meanwhile, the adult size suits most grown patients.

In clinical use

First, the clinician slides in the Vienna while its blades touch. Next, they part slowly to widen the vestibule. A headlight then shows the septum and the front of the turbinates. The free hand can hold suction or a small forceps.

Stocking the right sizes

If you see patients of all ages, keep all three Vienna sizes. However, an adult-only clinic may need just the adult version. Pediatric clinics often keep infant and children sizes together. If you need blade measurements for any Vienna size, contact us and we will check one.

Caring for the Vienna

Clean the Vienna blades after each patient. Also rinse the hinge and dry the speculum fully. Then sterilize it before the next patient.
