Description
Troutman-Chris Blade Breaker and Holder
The Troutman-Chris blade breaker snaps a small piece from a razor blade and then holds that piece as a fine cutting tip. Microsurgeons use this kind of holder when a standard scalpel blade is too large.
From razor blade to micro knife
Clamp the razor blade in the jaws, then bend it to break off a fragment. The jaws keep hold of the fragment, which becomes a small, very sharp blade. So you can make a fresh tip whenever the old one dulls.
Straight or curved
The straight version suits direct access. Meanwhile, the curved version angles the tip, which helps where the incision sits beyond a rim or edge. Both carry the 5.5 mm size on our listing.
Caring for the Troutman-Chris blade breaker
Remove the fragment and discard it in a sharps container. Then clean the jaws with a soft brush and dry the instrument before sterilizing it.
Making a clean break
Clamp the blade so that the jaw edge sits exactly where you want the fracture. Then bend with a firm, single motion rather than several small ones. As a result, the break runs straight and the fragment keeps a sharp point. Always hold the blade away from your face while breaking it.

Ordering and warranty
Our warranty gives the instrument three years against manufacturing defects. In Atlanta, we check the jaws before each order ships. See our FAQs for sterilizing. Also, ASTM F899 covers the steel, and more blade holders and knives appear in this range.
Disclaimer
We sell razor blades separately. For professionals. The stainless steel contains nickel, so allergic reactions sit outside our liability. FDA material safety gives more information.
