Description
Treves Dissecting Forceps
Treves forceps are a toothed dissecting pattern with a sturdy tip. They come in five lengths from 12.5 to 20 cm.
1:2 teeth
The teeth interlock when you close the tips. So the Treves forceps grip skin without slipping.
Five lengths
The 12.5 and 13 cm sizes suit closure at the surface. Meanwhile, the 15 to 20 cm sizes reach deeper layers.
A solid build
The arms feel firm in the hand. Therefore the forceps work well on tougher tissue.
Using them
Grip the tissue edge with the tip and lift it gently. Then place the needle while the Treves forceps hold the edge steady. Also, a longer pair helps when the wound runs deep. In addition, the Treves pattern has a firmer tip than a standard 1:2 forceps, so it holds thicker skin well. Meanwhile, the shorter sizes suit minor surgery. So a clinic can use one pattern from the treatment room to the theatre. Also, the Treves forceps suit students and junior staff, because the sturdy tip forgives a slightly heavy hand while still holding skin cleanly. For example, a 15 cm pair works well in a suturing clinic.
Reprocessing Treves forceps
Clean the Treves teeth promptly with a small brush. Then rinse the instrument under running water and dry it. Before sterilization, confirm that the teeth still interlock.
