Description
Duehrssen Dressing & Tissue Forceps
Duehrssen forceps are a long 20 cm pattern used mainly in gynaecology. You can choose serrated tips or three tooth patterns.
Serrated tips
The serrated version holds gauze and dressings. So it suits vaginal packing and wound care.
Toothed tips
The 1:2, 2:3 and 3:4 versions grip tissue firmly. Meanwhile, more teeth spread the hold wider.
A 20 cm reach
The long body reaches deep into the pelvis. Therefore your hand stays out of the field.
Choosing a tip
Pick the serrated version for dressings and packing. Then add a toothed version for holding tissue during repair. For example, a serrated and a 2:3 pair cover most gynaecological needs. In addition, the Duehrssen pattern suits vaginal packing and cervical work. Meanwhile, the toothed versions help during repairs. Therefore gynaecology trays often carry both a serrated and a toothed pair. Also, the Duehrssen forceps help during cervical procedures, where the long body keeps the hand out of the speculum. For example, a 2:3 pair gives a firm hold on the cervix without deep marks.
Cleaning Duehrssen forceps
Rinse the Duehrssen tips after each use. Next, scrub the serrations or teeth with a nylon brush and dry the forceps. Afterwards, hang or lay the 20 cm arms so they keep their shape.
